The Kaplan House

The Kaplan Garden

This is my personal garden.   The lot is only 10,000 square feet, including a large Italianate frame house.  I began building my plant collection in 1993 when we bought the house, starting with  a mixed border along the main street as a buffer. I planted the English oak and the copper beech before we even moved in.  I wanted to find the best and most exciting plants, which meant a lot of mail order catalog shopping.  Over the years, the garden has expanded with a commensurate shrinking of the lawn.  The newest area is an extensive shade garden under the now large English oak tree.
